This book provides an overview of distributed control and
distributed optimization theory, followed by specific details on
industrial applications to smart grid systems. It discusses the
fundamental analysis and design schemes for developing actual
working smart grids and covers all aspects concerning the
conventional and nonconventional methods of their use. Hybrid
Intelligence for Smart Grid Systems provides an overview of a smart
grid, along with its needs, benefits, challenges, and existing
structure and describes the inverter topologies adopted for
integrating renewable power, and provides an overview of its needs,
benefits, challenges, and possible future technologies. This
pioneering book is a must-read for researchers, engineering
professionals, and students, giving them the tools needed to move
from the concept of a smart grid to its actual design and
implementation. Moreover, it will enable regulators, policymakers,
and energy executives to understand the future of energy delivery
systems towards safe, economical, high-quality power delivery in a
dynamic and demanding environment.
This edited volume assesses the quality of democracy in the
Republic of Korea three decades after its formal democratization in
1987. It has been argued that Korea's two subsequent power
turnovers prove that its democracy has been successfully
consolidated, despite its tremendous progress; however, recent
developments show signs of deterioration and retreat. Therefore,
drawing on the recent quality of democracy literature this volume
sets out to answer the question: Where does Korea's democratic
quality stand today? The three chapters in first section of the
book focus on aspects related to the presidency, political parties,
and organized labor, also including the perspective of governance
and human security as well as on the rule of law regarding the role
and function of the prosecution. This is followed by a set of four
chapters in section two that address the dimensions of democratic
quality such as participation, freedom, equality, and
responsiveness. The final, third section includes contributions on
related inter-Korean policy issues. This book is an invaluable
resource for political and social scientist working on democratic
quality, and at the same for scholars in Asian or Korean Studies at
faculty level as well as on graduate student level.

This monograph is a comprehensive introduction to the field of
soccer robotics. Soccer robotics has become an important research
area integrating mechatronics, computer science and artificial
intelligence techniques to create real-world autonomous systems. It
also serves as a popular test arena in which to compare the
different approaches, in diverse types of competition and with
varying levels of distributed perception and collaboration. The
focus of this monograph is the FIRA framework of Soccer Robotics,
in particular MiroSot, which uses a central overhead camera to
overview the whole soccer field and a central control of the
robots. "Soccer Robotics" completely describes the different
requirements to create a soccer team and details the hardware
aspects, the computer vision needed, navigation, action selection,
basic skills and game strategy. These aspects are described at an
undergraduate level, resulting in a book not only useful as a text
for courses but also indispensable for everyone who wants to
participate in MiroSot robotics.

Extensive study of solar energy is increasing as fast as the threat
of global warming is getting serious. Solar energy is considered
the best source of renewable energy because it is clean and
unlimited. Solar radiation can be harnessed and converted into
different forms of energy that does not pollute the environment. In
order to transform solar radiation, we need collectors of sunlight,
such as solar cells. The main challenges are energy security, the
increasing prices of carbon-based energy sources, and global
warming. We cannot use sunlight during the night, so an energy
storage system (ESS) is necessary. The best ESS is one with high
power and high energy density. This book introduces the basic
concepts of an ESS. Written by Prof. Hee-Je Kim, who leads an
interdisciplinary team at the Pusan National University, this book
compiles and details the cutting-edge research that is
revolutionizing solar energy by improving its efficiency and
storage techniques through the development of engineered sunlight.
It discusses the fabrication and commercialization of
next-generation solar cells such as dye-synthesized, quantum-dot,
and perovskite solar cells, besides describing the high-energy and
power-density-flexible supercapacitor for a hybrid ESS, as well as
the dual active bridge (DAB), DC/DC converter, MPPT, PV inverter,
and remote control by a smartphone with a novel algorithm for a
power-conditioning system.
Learn about the latest advances in high-brightness X-ray physics
and technology with this authoritative text. Drawing upon the most
recent theoretical developments, pre-eminent leaders in the field
guide readers through the fundamental principles and techniques of
high-brightness X-ray generation from both synchrotron and
free-electron laser sources. A wide range of topics is covered,
including high-brightness synchrotron radiation from undulators,
self-amplified spontaneous emission, seeded high-gain amplifiers
with harmonic generation, ultra-short pulses, tapering for higher
power, free-electron laser oscillators, and X-ray oscillator and
amplifier configuration. Novel mathematical approaches and numerous
figures accompanied by intuitive explanations enable easy
understanding of key concepts, whilst practical considerations of
performance-improving techniques and discussion of recent
experimental results provide the tools and knowledge needed to
address current research problems in the field. This is a
comprehensive resource for graduate students, researchers and
practitioners who design, manage or use X-ray facilities.
Depending on in-plane size, the application of Josephson junctions
varied from the terahertz (THz) oscillator to the single electron
transistors. This book is focused on the study of submicron
Josephson junctions fabricated in high-temperature superconductors
(HTS). The unit cell of layered HTS show intrinsic Josephson
junctions (IJJs) phenomenon. The Cooper pair tunneling in the IJJs
can be affected by quantum phase fluctuations when the resistance
of a submicron stack is in the range of quantum resistance. To
observe this quantum effect, stacks of IJJs of various in-plane
area down to submicron range have fabricated in Bi-2212 single
crystal whiskers using three-dimensional focused ion beam etching
technique. Submicron stacks show a strong suppression in critical
current density. The possible mechanisms for this suppression are
discussed and the data analysis points to the quantum phase
fluctuations as the most likely mechanism of this effect.
Furthermore submicron stacks of a-axis oriented multi layered thin
film of YBa2Cu3O7 and PrBa2Cu3O7 (Y123/Pr123) Josephson junctions
are studied in presence of external microwave irradiation.
Many automatic schema matching approaches have been proposed, but
the challenge is still daunting because of the complexity of
schemas and immaturity of technologies in semantic representation,
measuring, and reasoning. The book focuses on three challenging
problems in schema matching. First, the existing approaches have
often failed to sufficiently investigate and utilize semantic
information imbedded in the hierarchical structure of the XML
schemas. Secondly, due to synonyms and polysemies found in natural
languages, the meaning of a data node in the schema cannot be
determined solely by the words in its label. Thirdly, it is
difficult to correctly identify the best set of matching pairs for
all data nodes between two schemas.A variety of computer
experiments have been conducted with encouraging results that show
the proposed approaches in this book are valuable for addressing
difficulties in XML schema matching.
